RATING THE CONTROL OF ARTIFICIAL LIMBS BY THOUGHT ALONE:
On a scale on one to ten, where one is scary and ten is amazing; I would give the fact that human science continues to awe me with its advancements a "10" and by the unknown of what could come from such an advancement, I would give it a "0". My dear friend was hit my a wave a paralyzed from his neck down when I was 12. Through the years I have watched him both suffer and overcome living in a culture where being able is required. When I think of an advancement like this in which he could get some movement back, a chance to hug his children or walk to get his wife a coffee, I am thrilled. I know these technologies have scary variables and warfare is always a concern, but when you love someone that could have their life changed by this, it is much easier to accept it and just hope that while it helps millions of people it will hurt few. Nothing in life comes without its side effects.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A "BIONIC" PERSON:
This one scares me a bit more. Trying to move limbs on a human body that already exists is one thing, but creating a whole new "person" seems useless. Don't we have enough issues of overpopulation? Don't we already have enough people that are unemployed? Is the arguement about sending these bionic people to war so we don't hurt soilders, but we will hurt who we are at war with. Sending them to mars, is that the plan? And what happens when this science gets in the hands of someone with Hitler mentality.....we will have no control. I support advancements in science more when I think it will greatly improve the life of a human, animal, or help the earth. Granted, if I had a robot here that was willing to offer me a massage every hour during final studying, I may have to get back to you.

week #11
ACUPUNCTURE AS EFFECTIVE ENERGY MEDICINE
The more I study acupuncture, the harder I find it to explain to someone who is not learning about it. In a nutshell, it is energy medicine as it works to balance the flow of Qi in our bodies. When I try to explain it to my family (who are firm believers in western medicine), I ask them to envision a cadaver, with all its veins and organs in tack. Then I tell them that Qi is what moves everything around in a body while it is alive, so my needles would have little effect on the cadaver (I don't go into the fact that there is still Qi in everything dead or alive). But I find myself shying away from calling acupuncture "energy medicine" as it often gets pegged as "new age" medicine, when it is perhaps one of the oldest aged medicine there is.
CONCLUSIONS FROM KIRLIAN PHOTOGRAPHY
I understand it to show that living things have an aura that can be somewhat showed through photography. It seems this technology can help show people what acupunture is going for when it is trying to manipulate this aura. It is also important to note that the photography shows that auras are always changing which is so important for us to know as future doctors. When a patient comes in with similar symptoms as the week prior it does not mean that the treatment will be the same. It is possible that the last treatment was effective, but Qi shifted somewhere else causing similar discomfort. It is important for us to honor the ever changing flow of Qi.
HUMAN INTENT AS IT AFFECTS HEALTH
Last night I stumbled on an article that brought together several expert practioners of acupunture. Each was asked to locate and treat a specific point on a woman's body to help with a backache. The point of the study was to see if these experts all had the same precise spot for the specific point. Well, the outcome was surprising. Not one of the doctors put a needle in the same spot, and the furthest distance was over a foot apart from each other. The amazing part was that the pain was greatly diminished when each practioner incerted the needle and the woman could not pick one treatment as better than the other. The conclusion of the study talked about that although the points themselves are important, it was the intent of the doctor that made the results happen with the back pain. Perhaps what makes these doctors experts is their ability to find intention in every insertion.

week #10
I KNOW I AM A LIVING SYSTEM BECAUSE..........
When the sun is setting, and the air is crisp, and my pootch is sleeping by my feet I feel alive. I know I live in this world as I share the space with other living systems (and non-living systems). I need the sun. In fact, I worship the sun and I grow like a plant when its rays shine on my body. The earth is moving with me not noticing, but I do feel my own movement. Sometimes the more I move, the more alive I feel. A bike ride should do. I am in a magnetic field as I try to let good things draw to me (although this takes weeding out some bad at times). The atmosphere protects me, in theory, on my skin, but also deeper as it guides my smallness through the largeness. I rely on water. Just the slightest change in my intake of water reminds me of wilting plants in the middle of the day. I breathe air. The cleaner, the more alive I feel. And most of all, this aliveness takes time. My experiences happen over seconds, and years. My living system happens in many forms.
BIOPHYSICS AND ME
During my junior year of college, I had the privledge to study for a semester aboard a huge ship that sailed around the world. We made a circle and stopped at 10 countries along the way. The journey was amazing in so many ways, as I learned about the flora and fauna of the world. But when I take a second to think about the trip that was now over ten years ago, there is one thing that stuck out the most; from Japan to Seattle, we sailed on a ship and did not see land for 13 days. Nothing in my life has humbled me more! I felt so, so small. The waters of the ocean defined massive. I thought about how much energy is inside of me, little old me, and then realized how huge this universe is, and concluded that its energy is beyond massive. Biophysics makes me think of this connection between myself and the greatness of the universe. It helps me understand how I can fit in to something so much larger than I will ever understand, and still feel important. I believe we can feel greatness in our smallness. I was more alive for those 13 days than I ever felt.

Class # 9
MY E-PRIME BREAKFAST WITH MIKE
My old friend visited this morning for some breakfast. Mike just got back from a visit to Cuba. He seemed to enjoy his visit there. He seemed refreshed when he came into my home, as if the trip rejuvinated him a bit. When I asked about the politics of Cuba he seemed more tense. He explained that in his eyes, the situation is too hard to explain from one side or the other. He reported that some people there seemed happy to him, while others seemed like they were missing out on the rest of the world. After this talk, Mike appeared less cheerful than he did when he showed up. I think the conversation got his brain going a bit too fast and suggested that we make some food. Mike thought he should make the coffee since he does not think he cooks well. I scrambled some eggs and kale, and then I put some bread in the toaster. Mike smiled while he made the coffee which made me think that he got his mind off of the conversation about Cuba. We ate our meal and shared many stories. It seemed to me that we both enjoyed our visit. I think we will see each other later in the week.
CAN I SYNTHESIZE EAST AND WEST?
YES! When I entered this field of study it was very important to me to remember that both eastern and western medicine have played and continue to play a huge role in my life. I have been turned off from doctors who claim that their way is the correct way to deal with health. Having suffered health problems through my life, I really learned that everyone's body reacts to everything differently. I never seemed to improve when I worked with a healer that was sure their method would make me better. I have always been more drawn to eastern medicine as it seems to fit more of my values of natural healing and working with the individual body, but I will never forget the fact that western medicine has saved my life two times. I hope to continue through this program with a strong respect for both medicines as I know they both have their place. I even hope to focus on a patient population that may have to rely on western medicine to live, but want to get support from an eastern side as well. I think if our field wants to become part of the western world, we have to pay our respects to western medicine. It is not bad. I feel more often, there are good and bad doctors, just like there are good and bad acupunturists. The statement that you are nothing without your health is the truest thing I have ever known. With that, what ever people need to find their health......amen.

Week #8
NEWTON'S THREE LAWS AND ME
Law #1: When I stay at home, I am so thrilled to be here as I live in a redwood grove away from the rush of the city. So here, I stay at rest. Unless there is something that comes to my home with urgency, the state of rest is maintained. When I go into town to run errands, I am on a mission to do everything on my list. The buzz of the city egnites my motion to get things done. During these outings, sometimes a phone call will occur that will make me have to sit and rest for a moment. The rush of the city is usually so strong, it is hard to stop me in my tracks. I prefer the first part of the law.
Law #2: When my mind is light, it is usually when I am at peace with my emotions. As harder emotions build up, they seem to get stuck inside me, almost causing me to feel heavy. When this occurs, it is harder for me to motivate because life just seems like it will all be too heavy. Once things are dealt with, my mind is lighter.
Law #3: I am sad to say I know this law well. My ex and I were very good at fighting. Some people fight in a way where one person says how they feel and things get worked out. Not us. If one of us got mad and went to the other to express it, the other one quickly came back with the same or more force with another side of the arguement. We were real life car crashes sometimes. I don't recommend it as usually it never got worked out and we were always tired the next day.
OUR "ENERGY EFFICIENT" CULTURE
Where? I am sad to say that we are not an energy efficient culture. I spent 13 days on a ship from Japan to seattle where I did not see land for the entire journey. I was humbled to no end at the greatness of the size of the sea and made a special thought to myself to always remember how small I am. Although in my smallness, I can do great things, but I have to leave small footprints. I am shocked at the impact all of us can have, being that we are all so small, on this large earth. Now that we are starting to see some problems with the environment, hopefully we can take lighter footsteps and use our energy towards more positive impact. I try to tell people that all little efforts count. I am not sure if I should believe that, but it feels better to live without throwing in the towel.
DESCARTES HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR
He thought, therefore he was. It seems this philosophy seperates people from their sorroundings. And who is to say what thinks and how it things. We all believe animals to "think" but what about plants. As a farmer, who has to kill weeds all the time, I often wonder if I am causing harm and pain. I wonder what the other plants are thinking. This idea seems to put too much importance on humans. I would like to rephrase his statement in a more eastern way. I have QI, therefore I am. So now the rock that I stand on, the tree that hovers over me and the sun that is setting are all part of the equation of being.

Week #7
ORDERED CHAOS
To me, life is defined by this. There really is so much out of our control. I find that I tend to like order. I often walk the same path to get somewhere. I tend to do my homework the same way every week. I am very strict with my bed time. I have a daily routine with my beloved dog which includes several different trails. When I think about my future; I try to stay very healthy and active. I eat well. I surround myself by wonderful people. I fill my brain with art and information. But if you asked me what I want more than anything out of life, my answer would be the same as its always been; I want to be a great mom and part of a healthy family. Well, there is no order to that. I am very single and childless. In all this chaos, I have to just trust the universe that one day, this dream will stumble upon me. There is nothing I can do but continue to try to be a good person. Perhaps karma plays a role in chaos.
FRACTALS AS PATTERNS OF COMPLEX SYSTEMS
I understand fractals to be parts of a whole. In a snowflake, there are many tiny forms that are replicated in larger forms of that same snowflake. Fractals are also used in that chaos theory. They can be present in a chaotic phenomena, such as as crystal formation. They are not really sure how crystals are formed, but they can find fractals in each specific crystal. It is neat to think about something with such detailed design be present in things that seem to be in chaos.
CONSCIOUSNESS OUT OF CHAOS
This statement rings very true for me. I have a very active mind, that is often debilitating. It seems that thoughts are racing by in all directions. In some way, it is how I best understand chaos. (I don't recommend it). Luckily I have been able to find a few things that help slow my mind down, qigong, hiking, watching movies, doing math and playing cards. But as I try to sleep, I often lie awake as these tools are not as reachable. It is best for me to be very deliberate to think about only one thing and force myself to stay on that topic and in a way control my conscious mind of all the chaos around it.
COOL EXPERIMENTS
I did the experiment with a spoon, fork and knife. Here are the findings:
The spoon: the spoon created two unique types of mirrors. When you looked at the back of it, it was a convex mirror, which showed objectsto be smaller than they really were. The front of the spoon was a concave mirror which made the objects both large and small, and also upside down and rightside up.
The fork: I tried to get the fork to make a tone, but I am afraid that perhaps I have cheap "silver" ware. Too bad. I will be sure to try it next time I eat out somewhere fancy.
The knife: The knife acted as a mirror as we know, but we don't know mirrors to move around so much. So by moving objects around the knife, and or moving the knife around you can get some really neat images in the mirror, sometimes that look nothing like the object that you are reflecting. This one was my favoire.

Week #6 Vibration
ARE ALL VIBRATIONS GOOD?
While learning about the Tocoma Narrows Bridge, it is clear that not all vibrations are good as the bridge collapsed due to the "physical phenomenon of resonance." In other words, the destruction of the bridge happened because of two different vibration's frequency. So it is safe to say that vibrations are not always good.
But we should pay some respect to the beach boy's take on "good vibrations" as they make up all things that exist on this universe. As I said in class and an earlier blog, I was healed in a very deep way from tapping into the "vibrational force" within all things. I learned that there is a way to retrain your brain to change its relationship with a specific vibration and have a more positive connection to it. I was cured of over 400 different allergies due to accepting that each allergin had a vibration, and its vibration was welcome into my body. Thanks to vibrataions, I have muna, the love of my life, my dander full pootch. It still facinates me. (For those interested, it did take 3 years and health insurence. It is called N.A.E.T.)
RESONANCE IN MY WORLD.
Resonance makes up much of my world. For one, I am blessed to play music and I think of resonance in music as harmony of two sounds. It is a beautiful thing to make those sounds work together and move so many emotions due to its union.
On a different level, I think of resonance as my connection to each specific thing around me. As I have been dealing with chronic health problems, I have become very aware of how sensitive I am to the outside world. This forces me to check in with myself often, about whether this food, or this person, or this choice will "resonate" with my body or will it cause me more harm. Sometimes it is annoying, as yes, the piece of cake will make it worse, but overall, it is empowering to see the relationship I have to each given thing on each given day and have the power to help my body.
CONNECTIONS BETWEEN ENERGY AND QI.
I think energy is Qi and Qi is energy. I am not sure there is a way to seperate them. All the things we have learned about energy in this class, even from a western scientific model, match up to the funtions of Qi. One may define Qi as "life force", but there is Qi in all things, including things that are not alive. I would compare Qi to a vibration, as vibrations also make up all things in the universe. There is no way I can hold a rock and pretend that there is no Qi within it. Nor could I pretend that there is no energy in it. My challenge is how to explain this to people that are afraid of energetic medicine. Perhaps we can comfort them by saying Qi=Mc2 (sorry, I am tired, that was bad.)

Week #5 Sacred Geometry and Physics
Are there connections between Sacred Geometry and Physics?
Yes, yes and yes.
I understand sacred geometry to be everything that makes up the natural world. I think nature is the union of everything that we can see and everything that we cannot understand, all together. Patterns of sacred geometry lie in all living things in nature, most often observable in sprirals. It goes so deep within ourselves that when we look at the biology of our genes, we can see that DNA is structured in forms of sacred geometry. This can explain why artists, ancient civilizations, scientists across centuries came up with creations that fit these forms. As for its connection with physics, if biology is study that can explain the things we understand in nature, then physics is the study where we try to undertand the things in nature that are not visable and harder to examine. Since I believe that all things in nature are made up of sacred geometry, then most patterns in physics, descovered or undescovered will also hold these sacred forms.
Week #5 The CP violation
The CP Violation:
The neutral kaon seems to be a misbehaving particle, in that its behavior has no connection with the arrows of time. It is studied in uranium, for example, where its decay is "independent of time's direction". It seems that the neutral kaon in its "unkown" can be held accoutable for making what the universe is today. This makes me think of Darwin's evolution when he explains natural selection. It says that the most fit will survive, but what really happens to become the most fit it mistakes, or abnormal behaviors, called "mutaions". These mutations have resulted in the success of most species to adapt to their environments. So the misbehaving of the neutral kaon can be compared to a mutation, which makes the universe what it is.

Week #5 My (a)symmetrical world
Is the world symmetrical?
I am going to say yes and no. In a physical way, it seems obvious that things do not often appear symmetrical. You can look on a hill, one side can be a shaded woodland, and one side could be a sunny grassland. Even the hill itself will most likely not be symmetrical in its form. The deeper energy within each part of the hillsides could have more symmetry to it. The idea of yin/yang, where everything is in opposition and interdependent can show that most energy can be viewed with symmetry. The relastionship between a redwood tree and the eath that it grows from can hold symmetrical energy even though they are not physically symmetrical. They turn back and forth into each other for eternity. I imagine if you graph out that pattern, it would be a very symmetrical picture.
In my life, I often say I strive for balance, which is an energetic form of symmetry. The physical things that appear on each side of the "scale" may appear different, but the energy and the "weight" of the things, if balance is obtained, should be in symmetry.

week #4 Four Forces & Gravity
COMPARING THE FOUR FORCES
Although physicists find four "interactions": Strong nuclear force, electomagnetic force, weak nuclear force, and gravity, it seems that the first three are more linked together while gravity is not as strong of a force. The article "the Four Forces" explains that the three forces "are manifestations of a single, more fundamental, interaction." As the math is confusing to me, I understand that within an atom, there are these forces that dictate the behavior of its matter/mass. I like to think about the fact that when we study physics, we are in effect trying to understand how the universe works. But when we get down to it, we are still trying to grasp how the smallest of things work, and it is so hard to grasp the power of these forces as they affect things as small as a raindrop or as large as a star.
It is comforting to think about the human body encompassing these forces as we are propelled by them in our existance. When we think about becoming "energy doctors" it makes more sense to think about all the energies that are streaming within the body, and how the insersion of a needle, the function on one plant can play a huge part of the shifting in these energies.
When Einstein was asked about the existence of God, he commented on the fact that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed. He left us to ponder how it was created. I prefer to ponder on how it can be altered for improved health and well-being.
GRAVITY
As a kid I remember learning that gravity is the force that pulls us to the center of the earth and I feared falling into holes because I was scared that I would get sucked into the crust of the earth. My brother liked to remind me of this "fact". I was relieved to learn in middle school that gravity "was not that strong" and its force only held us to the ground. I find that ironic as we now learn of the four forces, gravity "is not that strong" compared to the other three. I guess the kid in me gets it. It is also ironic that gravity as a word is often used to describe something of alarming importance, which means it has much weight associted with it.
I think gravity holds us "down" but it also pushes and pulls us toward things around us. I "gravitate" towards people that are funny and kind. I "gravitate" towards warmth. I also take gravity for granted, and even curse it when I fall off my bike. But I know it is a good thing, as without it I would not have any muscles to even ride my bike. So thank you gravity, even if you are the weakest of the four forces.

Week #4 E=Mc2
HOW HAS E=MC2 AFFECTED ME:
Although I have not thought of it in terms of e=mc2, I have been greatly affected by energy and matter being not only connected, but unified. This has come up for me in dealing with some of my health problems. I had severe allergies my whole life that had great control over what I could do on a given day. I was allergic to dust and mold and could barley sleep in my home during the rainy season. I could not even hug a person that was in a house with a cat, even if I was never at the house. I tried many forms of western and eastern healing (included acupunture) but found my greatest results through NAET. I know this healing does not work for everyone, but it worked for me, and I am so greatful as my life has changed for the better.
The idea behind the healing is that all things (mass) have an energy (vibration), and it is our brain that sometimes comuptes the data of this energy the wrong way and we get an allergic reaction. I had to start thinking about each specific allergen in terms of energy. The healing involved holding a small amount of this allergen (mass) in my hand, while the Doctor did some acupressure and other things to tell my brain that the energy of the mass that I was holding was okay and safe. Two years later, allergy by allergy, I am almost free of all my allergies. I have lived with the love of my life, a dog, for five years. Last night she slept by my face as she often does. If that happened seven years ago, I would have been in the hospital.
Excepting that dust mites, pollen, mold, dander, metals, ect, have energy, meant that I could train my body to relearn about the energy in these masses, and I could heal. I became so experienced in this that by the end, as I took a specific allergen in my hand I could feel the amazing force of its energy and could almost understand the power of the speed of light.

Week #3
CONNECTIVITY
I often hear the saying that "we are all connected", and I happen to agree. I hear people say that "we were supposed to meet for a reason" when they talk about the amazing person they married or befriended. I believe that all things are connected (living and not living) and I try very hard to reflect on the lessons that my days give me. Since I started in New York City and became an organic farmer and have had such an unpredictable path, I know things in my life happen for a reason. When I take my dog to the park, there are times when I keep to myself and other times I have interactions with people and/or trees. When I think about why this stranger and I met, there is usually a lesson for me to learn and I am so glad if I take the time to explore it.
But if you ask me to explain connectivity based on what I know, I am lost for words. I think I have too much evidence for all things being connected to believe in chance. It is easier for me to believe that there is a grid of energy that all things react to and interact because of over just believing that things just happen.
I think of this universe like an ecosystem. My actions play a small part in the lives of everyone on this planet. Some people are effected sooner than others, but I believe that at one point or another, my actions will touch another. We are seeing it on larger scales with global warming and extinction of species. I think it is also on a subtle level. It is one of the many reasons I try to leave small footprints and act out of kindness.

Week #3
EVIDENCE FOR SYNCHRONICITY
I have been thinking about this one through the entire week. Once again, I am glad to be asked to try to "prove" such a thing as synchonicity stands as another thing I just accept in my daily life. I often experience thinking of someone and having them phone, or reminded of something I need to do and a song comes on about it moments later. I believe that there is some sort of spirit that graces me, and find it strange how I quickly write it off as another act of this "other worldly" being. (I am not a relgious person so I stray away from the term "god"). I think it is important for me to revisit these moments and ponder to the possible energy that is present among our universe that causes these events to happen. It is not hard for me to believe that there is a greater web of energy that creates such moments, and that there is a way to explain it.
As for evidence, I think the only evidence is in the actual events, and that they happen time and times again, to people of all faiths, all over the world. I am not sure all the ways that people make sense of it, but I am more curious as it seems easy to place it on a God, or just "coincidence".
I play poker at card clubs as a pure hobby since I love numbers and cards, and something that I have always been very amused by and also victim of is the occurrence of superstitions. There is a man that turns his chair three times to the left everytime he wins a hand. There is another man that takes off all his jewelery every half hour, sets his clock, and puts it back on every 30 minutes. I find myself tapping three times on my cards everytime before I look at my hand. What we are in effect trying to do is call on this "energy" that is somewhere out there that will in fact give us the winning hand. I am not sure if this superstition has any effect on the outcome of my hands, but I am a smart, logical person, and I have no intention to change my habit. In fact, I think it works. I look forward to asking these men more about it, and wonder if they will choke on the idea of synchronicity having a reason.

Week #2
UNCERTAINTY
I find it so fitting that western science came up with an equation that states that uncertainty is constant. It is hard for us to grasp things that do not always come out as we suspect, so we found a funny box to put this "constant" thing into. I do relate as I am a person who thrives on order (they call me a "liver person"). As much as I like to let things flow, I tend to overplan and try to predict all the things that will happen throughout the day. This is a good lesson for me, as life shows me time and time again that you can never be fully "certain" of anything that is going to happen. In fact, if I had to conclude from all my experiences thus far, I can say that I am certain that I never came close to predict all the things that occured in my life thus far. Which means that life, as I know it, is uncertain. I hope to take this to heart more, as I think just this equation could help me lead a life with less expectation. Some things are certain, though. I love my dog. No eastern or western equation can shake that constant.
CAUSALITY
To be honest, I am not 100% sure I understand what causality means. It is defined as everything having a cause. Does cause mean reason? Does it mean that something causes every outcome? For some reason, my brain is confused on this topic. (Which is one reason why I have so much respect for all these scientists that pondered such issues.) We always hear the expression, "things happen for a reason." In fact, people say this when there is a spark of uncertainty to why something in life happened. After a hard break-up, a death, a new love, a strange moment, or whatever the case, many people will argue that all this has a reason, a cause. I think it is yet another way to make us feel more comfortable in this huge life that has so many variables. Religion has taken this on, in both western and eastern. If we do good, than good will happen to us. It is hard to imagine that if I try my whole life to be a kind person, and I am struck with misforturne, there is no reason. But, if I really think about it, in the end, things just happen sometimes. There is another expression that is often used, "shit happens". So if all things happen for a reason, or if shit happens, it is safe to say that we do not have an exact equation for causality. YET.
IS THE UNIVERSE WEIRD
If weird means, "suggesting something supernatural", then yes, the universe is quite weird. When I started figuring out who I really am as a person in this universe (which is an ongoing process) I found myself making things black or white. The older I get and the more that I experience, I realize that things are getting more and more grey, and the only thing I know for sure is that, as they say, the more I try to know, the less I know. Through all the processing, I have found myself concluding that things don't always make sense and in fact sometimes things are just weird. The more I try to understand how love works, the more I believe how weird this universe is.

The Meaning of Time
Although last weeks class spent most of the time learning about each person's experience of time (which was great), it left me thinking about different things all week. When we learned about the additional second that was added onto 2005, I right away thought, "yet again, we are trying to control earth." But after thinking about it for the week, I realize that time and space is so huge, much like most things in this life. It is natural for us to try to make things smaller so we can somehow function and feel a bit safer with all the unknowns that we face (or just do not think about because they are too scary). So now I see it as humans, once again, just trying to feel safer in this "chaos", and one way we do that is by keeping a world clock that helps us measure our moments here. Perhaps we should take that extra second and think about the fact that earth is moving slower than us as there are always lessons to be learned from slowness, and a bit of irony that we have done so much damage with our pace.
week one quiz
1. What attracts me to Chinese Medicine?
I left my new york city "western" life when I was 17, and took on many things of a more "Alternative" nature. I started working on organic farms, became very aware of a great life other than the only one way I was taught to live mine. I loved making tinctures and natural medicines, eating healthy and expanding my mind. A chronic illness surfaced more during this time, and became completely debilitating when I moved to California. I tried all things "eastern", including chinese medicine, and unlike most success stories, I had to make the choice to go on western medication. I think it saved my life, in a way, and I will never forget how useful it was to me as I am immersed in eastern medicine. Once I found the strength to be on a healing path, I engaged in heavy doses of acupunture and herbs, and have found an amazing balance between the two spectrums. I am thrilled to be learning chinese medicine, as it is a privledge to force my brain to expand in ways that I never knew possible. I hope to work with a population that may need western medicine, but would like to find more balance with chinese medicine. I look forward to all I have to learn, and know in this path I will be learning for the rest of my life. What a gift!
2. What do I honestly think of physics, really?
I never took it, so I don't really know that much about it. I love math, as numbers comfort me in a world where there are so few answers. I will try to be open to learning physics without too much focus on math, and I think this is another gift as I try to step out of my comfort zone in education. I'll let you know after the semester.
3. Now that I think about it, have I ever experienced time "slowing down"?
Often. The clock seems to go backwards during herbology class ;-). My most vivid thought on this is when I worked in the field on veggie farms. I have managed one farm for three years, and felt much stress from the time crunch of each day. Every plant is very time sensitive, mostly having to do with the sun. On harvest days we had a strict order that things needed to be done in, and it required fast pace and many details. On those days, I would wake up stressed, and head down to the garden. Everytime I kneeled down to touch the earth from where all our crops grew, something would shift in the time. It is hard to explain, but as stressed as I was, the second I touched the moist soil, I was at peace, and a chore that needed to be done in twenty minutes, always got done, but it felt like hours would pass. The earth has a calming effect in so many ways, and soon I learned to trust it as on most mornings in my last year on the farm, the stress was not there. I knew it would all get done, and I would enjoy the slowness of the fast paced day.
